Shackleton's Endurance found

The BBC on their website announced the news that the Endurance has been found sitting on the bed of the Weddell Sea in the antarctic. This is great news as the search for this ship was ardous. The ship is in a remarkably good condition, the hull and the superstructure in particular. The masts and rigging is damaged, apperently this happened before the ship sunk.

The piece I find most interesting in all this story, other than her fantastic condition is : she was found just 4 miles from where Frank Worsley and Hubert Hudson the navigators last plotted her position. Remember these were the days before any fancy GPS... They just used a sextant, chronometer and an almanac... with a bit of basic maths thrown in !!

Only made it to Specialist four. However a sidebar. In the field artillery fire direction control was getting computerized)1971-74). The chief of fire direction control made all his people plot with pencil and paper before running the computer. His replay was-"What if the power goes out?" BTW, does spark my interest om the Occre kit.

My Endurance is sitting in the cupboard waiting for my model of the HMS Supply to be finished.
 
Amazing news, I didn't actually realise it was actively being looked for.
Coincidently I watched this movie "Shackleton's Captain" a few months ago available on Tubi, incredible story of survival and never give up attitude, very inspirational.

Richie, thanks for the heads up as I just finished watching “Shackleton’s Captain” myself. Have read several books however this was an informative movie.
