Ship picture from the Philadelphia Museum of Art

[Ignatius27]

Here are some pictures of ships and vessels in paintings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from my visit yesterday. While not having much from the 20th century, there were some fascinating images, especially the first picture of a ship wrecking and the sailors fleeing to safety. Enjoy!

There really are some beauties here, thanks much for sharing. Gordon Grant could not only paint, he designed and built some beautiful models as well.

Thanks for sharing!
The first painting looks like my first sailing attempt.

I especially like the painting where the polar bear is looking hungrily at the crew in the small boat heading for shore.

Another incentive to go to Phidelphia.

The polar bear scale is hilarious, not accounting for perspective, the polar bear looks like he can devour all the ships in one gulp!
