Side tackles

I'm just installing the guns on the Discovery1789. I'm trying to get the side tackles to hang properly. I made the rope for the side tackles with polyester thread. Polyester won't soak up water so diluted PVA just kinda beads up. I could use CA as it soaks in nicely but it is a little too fast and it darkens the rope. Is there a glue that will soak into poly thread like CA but otherwise behave like PVA?

Try matte lacquer (Testor's Dulcote in the bottle). Also maybe matte polyurethane.

Thanks ah. It occurred to me that shellac may work. It dries very fast and I have some. Lacquer would also work. I'll keep it in mind.
