While work continues on my Golden Hind, I will begin working in parallel on this tiny but very cute model!

It is only 13cm long...that is 5"...

But it should make a good diversion from the GH.

I think I will try to paint this model like the Model Shipyard photos here:

But given the size...some compromises will need to be made :)

Most of these tiny raised things should be gloss white and the deck is wooden, of course.

I am thinking of a light spray of the entire deck in Tamiya gloss white so that the little pieces are done. Then hand brushing stynylrez on the deck before adding the lifecolor pigments for the wooden effect. There is some planking marked on the deck so thin coats of paint are required.

I will start this today I think.

Although I sprayed the deck in white, to get the little bits, the paint pooled at the bottom where the part joins the deck. So I removed all paint to start again! These pieces are so small that a hairy brush is fine. So I went with painting the deck acoutrements white and will go back and add stynlyrez/Lifecolor afterwards.

I did spray the hull parts (red and black) and I worked on the black plastic base. It has some wood grain texture and the stynlyrez + lifecolor pigments did its magic! It really looks like a wooden base!

Some touchup required tomorrow.

Also - Harry Houdini has prompted (challenged?) me to try to replace the vacuform sails with material ones. This will be new for me!

I was a bit concerned about the tiny doors and tine life preservers. But Posca Pens came to the rescue! I was surprised that they, as water-based (?) acrylics, were sticking to the gloss white enamel..but they did! And they gave me enugh control to paint the tiny pieces quite well.

And I have started on the deck. It looks better than this picture, taken in bright sunlight. More work to be done, in any case.

I think the that th4 vacuformed sails look particularly bad because they are too full of air, too much billowed. Maybe I'll put them on just hanging flat. I think that would look better especially at this scale...
