Soleil Royal by Heller - an Extensive Modification and Partial Scratch-Build by Hubac’s Historian

In this space, I have shared the ups and downs of my father’s condition, and so many of you have been so kind with considerate words and support.

Early Monday morning my father, Peter LaGuardia, escaped the body and mind that had imprisoned him. As anyone who has witnessed the ravages of dementia knows, it is an incremental loss and a long grieving until the end.

I want you all to know that I am doing okay. In many ways, Dad’s passing was a relief for him and us, as well. It was very difficult to watch him suffer.

If it piques your curiosity, I have attached a link to his Memorial Page:

My condolences for the loss of your father Marc, dementia is a horrible thing for all involved.
Take care of each other.

Regards,
Stephen.

Thank you, Stephen - it sure is hard on families! As I was really close to my Dad, the first three years, when he was losing himself, were especially hard on me. As his primary advocate, though, the last three years were hell on my sister.

It was a matter of proximity and availability; my sister lives nearby, is a free-lance makeup artist, and has no children. She didn’t have a particularly close relationship with our Dad, when we were younger, but in the strangeness that these circumstances sometimes allows for, she was able to come to a reconciliation of all those fraught feelings just before he died.

I am grateful that she did not have a nervous breakdown, as their are multiple other stressors in her life that she now has the bandwidth to tend to.
