Sovereign of the Seas - Sergal 1:78 (with hopefully many added details)

Here is an image from the front. It’s an unfinished project. Unfortunately the builder is not well is not able to continue with the build.

I have an opportunity to purchase this.

I will certainly will need some help on this one. Although I’m succeeding with my mantua HMS Victory build. I been told it’s one of if not the hardest model ship kit to build.

I do plan on starting a build log.

Hi all,
Kurt as always -- thank so much for your very knowledgeable posts.

Phillip thanks as well - very happy to have you aboard. Yes, great opportunity for you.
From what kit? and will you create a build log? regarding this ship many experts here will be so willing to help as well.
-----------
First set of gammonings are done. Finally -- and STILL all LED's are still operational - what a relief.
I have a short video of the perfect 27k flickering lights on my iPhone, but cannot load it here at SoS --- hhmm?

Thanks so much for the likes, or just for dropping by for a look, as well as the so helpful comments Thumbsup

Regards,

It's always a win when after a large refit or hull modification, you find that you didn't cut any LED wires!!! That's a win. Your ship looks glorious.

Thanks for putting up with the dumb questions, John. I went back to the beginning of the log and had some of my questions answered. Excellent work.

I purchased this today. Incomplete. The guy has done an awesome job on it so far.

That will rig up wonderfully. Great purchase! Thumbsup
Looking back I am sorry now that I did not use this beautiful colour contrast on my SoS. I left everything in timber colour, but I have to admit that the black-gold colour contrast looks so much better.
Janos

Dont forget to glue small wooden wedges to the bowsprit behind where the gammoning lashing will go. This prevents the lashing from sliding down the bowsprit and slackening. Do this before you start lashing the gammoning, and align the wedges properly in a vertical line.

Kurt, indeed very helpful hint. Almost done will post completed images - and then move to other area that still needs some detail work; Roman numerals at the stem, anchors on the starboard then the three lower partial masts.... Should be close to a "wrap" after that.

Thanks for you kind comment of this build.

Hoping that Dry Dock receives the new Pavel Viking ship so that I may order it straight away TBD

Janos --- Well, your Sovereign is a work of art that is absolutely spectacular. For members and guests who might not be familiar with his Sovereign. Here is an image; here is the link to his log;

Janos to your point regarding black - could be ---- BUT the natural woods look so remarkable.

Cheers,

Phillip, Yes, great purchase indeed. Good luck with this project. Do you intend to fully rigg it including sails?
The Sergal rigging instructions are way off, even without sails. PS: I'm no expert just repeating what I've read from those who really know ;)

McKay's look to be the best source and are so well detailed in the book. But look to be super complicated --- hmmm???
It will be nice following your log when you get it up and started...

At this stage not planning on adding sails. I will see how it looks after the rigging is completed and go from there.

I will do some research on the rigging. Contrary to the Mantua HMS Victory I’m building it appears the instructions on the Sovereign of the seas has more detailed easy to follow instructions.
