Howdy! I got super lucky on eBay while browsing for a model to build. Ran across a vintage SOS model unopened in the original box. Not sure what year it is but it is from before they started providing the nasty printed decking. They provide .5 x 3mm walnut to do the decking, but the hull is also walnut and I think that I don’t want them to match. I want the deck to be whiter. I’ve been looking at different woods to do this in but am not having much luck sourcing it. I would love hear some wood options and sources for it!

thanks!

Lucky you - would be very good, if you start a building log, or maybe to continue this topic (and I will move it later to the correct area for building logs)
Some strip wood for the deck planking should be no big deal - maybe you should contact @Dave Stevens (Lumberyard) who can give best advise....

I will keep a building log. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I ended up buying some reed leaf curly maple in 1/8” x 3” x 24” sheets. I have a tiny table saw I’m going to rip them down on.

We are looking forward to see your work on this model - Thumbsup

Used 3/4 shiplap ripped down into 1/8” strips then cut those down on my mini table saw to create lumber to frame my cannon ports. Starting the planking where suggested by the current instructions, but waiting for a shipment of little nails to continue.
