The difference is that the teeth spiral around the blade in contrast to ordinary blades which have the teeth at the front of the blade.
I have heard that this is not a good alternative to regular saw blades, I use the thinnest blade I could find.

I would buy a couple of different sizes and test them out for how they perform on the timber of choice.

I have used regular saw blade, the narrowest I found in my local hardware, it works very well, since I cut a little outside the lines on the pattern.
