Shipyards HMS Alert! I just started that one as well.

I'm nearly at this stage as well. I was going to attach the next layer of planking by only gluing where the bulkheads protrude. That way you won't get a wavy hull. Adding filler will make it much easier to get a fair hull. I see nothing wrong here.

Do you plan on starting a build log?

I putty to try to get an even hull. I have seen several construction logs with hulls that are not quite smooth but also ones that are smooth. Unfortunately, the builders rarely write how they build the hull, whether they putty or not. Will try to get a construction log but I am in the middle of a renovation of our hall which is 20 square meters with nine doors. I have steamed down four layers of wallpaper and will start puttingty there too!

I built Alert without needing to use putty or foam filler to strengthen the hull. As I recall (it's been a few years and I no longer have the instructions) there were two layers of vertical hull planking before the final planking. It's true that these do not fit perfectly to the bulkheads, but close enough. These make for a fairly solid base on which the final horizontal clinker planking is glued.

Keep in mind that you cannot do any sanding of the hull because it will just tear the paper. You can try trimming any bumps from the bulkheads with a razor.

I think I got the first vertikal layer not perfect. The other layers are longsides on my model.
