I used a stain pen to apply stain to the spars on my latest build. The next day I didn't like the color so I used a different stain color. Three days later, the stain was still sticky. I thought what to do now? I found a small heat gun on Amazon and it worked great. Within half an hour no more sticky stain.heat gun.jpg

Marty.... I'm assuming you used a stain pen such as the Minwax Stain Marker. This is an oil-based stain and the excess needs to be wiped off between coats; otherwise it remain sticky for some time.
