I have recently been able to use a free 3D printer in my local library to print up some objects that I use in my model building. I have gathered up a few free STL files that have kindly been offered on this site by JeffT, KeDennis and others. I have placed a copy of links for these wonderful objects and machines. If there is any kind of infringement of copyright or any other concern pleas let me know and I will remove those links. I am hopeful other will use this thread to add links to freely available files that they have found to be useful for model building.

Mr Jerry Todd has some wonderful files for cannons, a capstan, anchor, and more.

Thank you for posting these Rob. There are STLs available at NRG of all the different British cannon patterns from 1650 to an including the Blomefields as well as a few Spanish cannon that may be useful. I have the originals from when Ron and I were making the drawings so would love to have them made available here at SoS as well. Many/most kits provide incorrect cannon sizes, calibers, and patterns and these drawings are a huge help in getting appropriate ordnance for many ships. Zoly is offering the cannon from Canada but for other countries you can email the drawings and specs to any local printer and have them printed. It has been a year or so since last ordering but up to that time I never paid more than US$0.95 including shipping for 1:64 scale guns so not only are they more accurate in appearance they are affordable.

Thank you Allan. If you are allowed to it would be wonderful to share those files. I can post them in the top here or just post them into this thread.

Rob,
I did all the 2D drawings and sent them to Ron Thibault who did the STLs. He gave them to the NRG which posted them on their site that members can access. I have them in my files from before they were given to NRG so they are not proprietary and I would be happy to make them available. The problem is that they are really large files and I have no idea how to get them posted other than emailing them to you if you know how to do this. Please feel free to PM me if this is something we can work on.
Thanks

Allan,

This is the main problem. I have reached the administrators (Donnie, Jimsky, Brian) they said it is not possible for them to store the files but It is ok for us to provide links to where the files are stored. The links I have posted so far are to files located in maker world and tinkercad. I guess your files would have to be stored at a site such as those and then we could provide links to them. I do not know if you would be comfortable doing such a thing. I have never done that myself, although it is a moot point since I have never made my own STL plans .

Thanks Rob,
I would rather just email them to anyone that asks. Thankfully Drydock Models and Parts is making a great variety of them for a very fair price.
Allan

I understand! Thank you for your generosity in offering to send them to people. I just looked at the Drydock Models and Parts site. The prices there seem more than fair! I will be ordering from them!

A fairly simple way to share is to create an account with any platform that gives you a chunk of free cloud storage (remember, you are the product when things are free), upload files to that and make them shareable with a link. Ready-to-print 3d files can be pretty big and this method avoids clogging up your email account.
