The Half Moon by Kolderstok

G'day all, firstly thanks to all that have read and replied to my posts and a warm welcome to all. Today I continued on my project and got two more sails on. Trying to belay the ropes on the pins took most of my time and I have been thinking what I have to look out for on my next model when building it. I noticed that some people have been working on two or more models at the same time and am not sure why they do that but that is for another day. The authentic blocks look really good on my model and the oak color I am not sure if it feels washed out and dull? Anyway I love my project and thought about what I have achieved over these past few months, firstly I get to work with wood again and do intricate work like I used to when I was a shopfitter, secondly I have been spending a lot of time working on this as if it was my job and yes I have maybe rushed it a little but the way I see it, is I am trying to get my first ship behind me so I can learn from the mistakes and learn a pattern of how to go about it. And thirdly getting some of the tools together and familiarize myself with them so I can feel at eze when using them.
Learning the ropes so to speak is a great way to keep my mind active and stop me chewing my nails. Speaking of ropes I am going to get myself some posters on knots and rigging as well as learning maybe how to do my own ropes. that is it for now and will leave you with some photos to see what tools I have used only to this stage of my build.

G'day all,

Today is a day we all want to forget it happened... It was going quite good and I was on track to get most if not all the rigging done and then this happened. I was busy trying to belay one of the ropes and I accidentally put to much pressure on it and broke the glue line. Now All the ropes were on it and I had one more to put on when it let go, so I tried to glue it back on with the ropes attached but it would not stay in place while the ca glue dried so the only thing I thought of at this stage was to cut the ropes of so I could attach it properly. After clean of a tonne of ca glue and bits of rope I got it back on were it belonged. Now came the challenging part and that was attaching the ropes back on without breaking it off. Problem no.2 now the ropes were to short and the sails would not look good. Well at this stage I was getting nowhere so I had lunch and remove the five or so ropes at the yards and started again attaching the ropes after lunch. At the end of the day I got back to were I was hoping to finish at lunch but it taught me that no matter what happens, you will have a laugh later on in life about that day.
Tomorrow is house cleaning day for open house on Saturday so I am not sure how much work I will be getting done on the ship but I will keep you posted. Till next episode, enjoy the photos.

G'day all. Well thanks for all the replies and comments. Today I was glad to have finished all the rigging and worked on the anchors and gun port lids. I left them off for a reason and that is I would more then likely damage or break them off while handling the ship for rigging. Towards the end of the ship the rigging was getting a little vague in information like tie points and size of rope used for it. I went with the sizes that I had been using throughout and hoped it will be OK. Building the anchor stocks was interesting as the model asks for ropes on them and the way it is tied off has not much information on it. So I am going to have to do some research on my next model from Kolderstok and get bits on the ship before rigging the next one. This model is showing me that it possible for me to build and get a lot of enjoyment out of it. My wife is very impressed with me that I could even attempt this and still want to build an other one after it.
As much as I get frustrated sometimes I will not give up and I believe that it will only make a better person for it. I am going to have to, have a real hard look at what I've had to work out and try to write some notes down where I need to improve and or ask questions about the particular ship that I am working on to get it as close to authentic as possible. The Seven Provenience is going to be the next model I will purchase and will need some good books on it. Is there information on such ship that is in English?
I think I will be leaving it at this point and leave you with some more photos.

G'say all, today is a exciting day for me as I have finally finished my very first model ship from Kolderstok called "D'Halve Maen". I completed it at 1.23pm today and it has been a fantastic experience I must say. Now I can have a short break from modelling and concentrate on getting my house sold and looking for a new place. Thanks everybody for your support and will be back soon I hope.
