Have Carry On Cruising and Doctor at Sea been mentioned? Both brilliant films of the 1960s, packed with humour and ahem, naughty-cal action. :)

In high school in the early 60s I read Moby Dick for a book report. I reread the book. I saw the movie I don't know how many times. The Model Exp[o Charles W. Morgan in on my quick list now that my son and I are moved.

Yet there is evidence that china has been playing with what is talked about in the book. They claimed to have launched a submarine with a similar noiseless underwater propulsion system in 2022 or 2023.

And an american company came up with a plane for small defense submarines powered by under water jets after 2001.

An odd one is Riddle of the Sands. Early 20th century sailing and espionage story set along the German Coast

Riddle of the Sands: The book is well worth reading too. When first published in the early 1900’s it created a sensation in Britain and pushed the Govt to rearm vs Germany.

Trivia, but not for the author Erskine Childers. He was later executed by the British Government on the charge of supplying weapons to the Irish Rebels.

I will look for this book and movie. After reading that Childers was friends with Michael Collins before they had a falling out, this really interests me.

If their efforts are like their aftermarket car parts one cruise would be all they can handle. BTW, hats off to those who go down to the sea in ships.

well they make more reliable submarines then england can.. so there is that on their end.

And nuclear technology is not that hard,, even russia got it right now and then.
