Hello archjofo. Thanks for the welcome and your comment on my model. I have enjoyed following your build for years; all your work is exquisite. To my "refuge" status, well, as the saying goes: "Don't Give Up The Ship!"...

It's like that scene in "Field of Dreams" where he builds the ballfield and then, one by one, all the long-gone great ball players start slowly walking out of the corn field.

Thank you kindly, Kurt. Over recent years, I typically - but not always - present my ship models in dioramas. They're fun and challenging to create. And I'm a huge fan of adding realistic working sails and creating their specific rigging. I'll be posting more of my models in the Completed Models forum here over the coming weeks. Earlier today I uploaded several photos of another diorama I've named: "Ongakuka Maru -1720", a Japanese-themed tableau for a period merchant vessel.

From the "I can't tell you what it is, but I know it when I see it." department:

"A high-quality scale ship model provides a compelling impression of an actual vessel within the constraints of historical accuracy."

"I could stare at that for hours." and "the model is totally immersive." are the two best expressions of the defining characteristics of a "high-quality scale ship model" I've ever heard. This model is the epitome of the generally recognized standard for "high-quality scale ship models." You've just demonstrated what a "compelling impression" looks like as eloquently as might ever be possible. Your reaction to this model is definitely "what it looks like!" ;)


[Note: The term "high-quality scale ship model" denotes but one particular class of ship model sometimes referred to much less precisely as "museum quality" or "investment quality." There are as many other types of ship model which may be worthy of exhibition in a museum or purchased by a collector as an investment, as well.]
