For small boats and not very large scales, I do not recommend electric sanding at all.
It's like a haircut, if you go overboard you have to wait for it to grow back.
I always do it by hand.
A round piece of wood covered with fine sandpaper, helps perfectly in the stern area.
And two balsa felxible planks together covered with sandpaper, also for the rest of the hull.
