There is a sort of right of passage for a first time kit buyer: as part of their initial enthusiasm = to register at one or more ship model forum. It is probably a sort of magic totem to help assure success.
Almost all first time wooden kit builders are coming from having built plastic kits. The assembly of a wooden kit has little or nothing in common with the assembly of plastic kits. What experience with plastic does do is produce a totally unrealistic expectation about kit instructions. Some seem to never get the memo that almost all wooden kits share so much in common that having that part in individual instructions is a waste of company time and resources. The assembly process itself is totally different from that for plastic.
A wooden kit is at least a magnitude more difficult. Almost nothing about it is intuitive or obvious. - Most come in bearing unrealistic expectations and no intention of investing the time, mental exercise, or the part of their soul necessary for a successful completion. This is unexpectedly more complicated than preconceptions could perceive. More than 90% of first timers bail out.
