Yesterday I went to the IPMS Modelworld show at Telford. I have never been to any model shows and did not know what to expect.
Unfortunately I was very disappointed as there were three large halls absolutely jam packed with predominantly small plastic aircraft kits and displays by lots of clubs. If you you like plastic aircraft kits then you would have been in heaven. There were other unusual kits like Star Wars and things like that, but I only found two ship kits, one was a small plastic kit, walked by that one and next stand to that was a wooden plank kit of USS Constitution, it was very nice and I spoke to the one of the guys on the stand, they were new to ship kits and the Constitution is the only kit that they do but have one planned and coming out soon.
That was it unfortunately, unless I missed any others.
Really a 225 mile round trip waste of a journey for me, but hey, if you don’t go you will never know.
Does anyone know of any shows that I could go to in the UK

Hi Dennis

That show has been like that for some time, there are numerous videos on YouTube regards to people those who have model channels filming their trip and each and every one has literally No Ships in it, thats why i never bothered taking the time and effort to go from Scotland. It seems that the show runs along the same basic lines or excuses as the likes of Airfix etc that there is not enough interest in building sailing ships which we all know is absolute rubbish, sadly a lot of the modelling public are being brainwashed into the same way of thinking.
I displayed at a New model show this year in Scotland bk in September and most of that was R/c model ships, Trains, cars, trucks only the odd plane, however I was the only one displaying Sailing ships.
Below is some of the models at the show as well as retail sellers.
Maybe best to put this post in the shows and exhibitions thread.

Hi Rob, Thanks for posting, it looks like you had more variety at your show than was at Telford. I loved the first pic but sadly the rest is not my cup of tea.
Apologies to anyone else interested in plastic aircraft and model RC boats.
I obviously am in a minority apart from the guys on this forum, but this is a worldwide forum.
My thanks go to the admin guys who run this forum.

There used to be a great model boat show every year at Warwick but it seems to have died after covid
Blackpool show is on this weekend (November 15th) but looking at the traders it seems to be mainly plastic kits.I am surprised that Caldercraft are not there now they have moved up north

Thank you for sharing those pictures with us. The show featured a nice variety of models from every category.

You missed a bit at Telford. A vender I help set up had several 1/350 scale ship models. Another had some 1/200 and 1/700 scale ship models. There were several ship related Special Interest Group tables in Hall 2. Several ship models, were amongst the various model club offerings. BUT, I concur that air and armor models are the vast majority. I asked every group that had predominately ship models if there were any shows in the UK dedicated to ship models. ALL pointed to the Telford show. Any others they thought of were focused on R/C ship models, with little interest apparently shown for static models. The same seems to hold true for ship model magazines. Most seem to be focused on R/C boats/ships. If there IS a show/exhibition focused on static ship models, be they modern or the glorious age of sail, I too would be interested in hearing about them, either in the UK, USA, or the Continent. As to Revell, I have hit them up at Telford the last ten years, less the Covid year, for a plastic based 74 gun SOL in 1/96 or 1/100 scale. As the predominate battleship during the Napoleonic period I am shocked none have been produced other than the few Heller offerings.

Thanks for your reply, obviously I didn’t look close enough, but the general feeling by me is that it’s not a show for the age of sail static models. I wont be going back and unfortunately based on your answer there are no shows that feature our hobby, oh well not to worry
