Using Occre Paint Set for the Albatros

I am in the process of building the Occre Albatros kit. When ordering kit I also purchased their paint set specifically for the Albatros. I have completed planking the main deck and top deck and attached them to the hull skeleton. I will soon start attaching the bulwarks but need to know if I should varnish the decks first. If or when I need to, how does the Occre paint system work? I have watched and read tons of build logs for Occre models and no one really goes into details about the painting/staining aspect. Do I varnish the decks using Occre's varnish right out of the bottle or is the stain applied and then varnish, or is the stain added to varnish to tint it?

Occre has a nice color chart showing which colors are need for which models, but nowhere do they show where to use those colors.

Thanks,
Roger

You should always stain before varnishing. Adding stain to the varnish may cause a streaky finish and if the varnish is acrylic (water based) and the stain is oil based (or vice versa) this will cause a problem in mixing. Let the stain dry overnight before varnishing. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Graham. I am using the Occre paint set made for my Albatros kit. Everything is water based. This morning I used the Occre varnish with a few drops of one of their stains and it worked fine.

You just have to look at the photos they have in instructions to see what to paint which color. I am not sure if they have a build on YouTube for this ship or not.
