Thanks for that photo Chuck. I was still not totally convinced. Water would collect in those recesses. And it would not be the first time that a builder has misinterpreted plans. However, C Nepean Longridge in "The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships" page 173, deals with the exact topic in detail, and the battens are indeed located
above the planks.
Constitution is my first wooden ship build, and I am learning heaps from my multitude of mistakes. But loving it. And also thoroughly enjoying SOS. Currently learning "the ropes" with my homemade ropewalk. Photo of my build so far, below. The ship's boats are Shicheng 1:96, but exact copies of plans from Marquandt. BTW, is it acceptable to post my photos on your thread?
