USS Constitution 1:70 Scratch

Any method that works is the right way. Keep up the great work. I am very much enjoying following this build. One of my favorites, and very instructive!

Thank you very much for your interest, Peter.
I actually decided yesterday how to plank the spar deck. Of course, I had a few options in mind, but I waited for the carriages to be completed before deciding. That way, with the trials, I would have an idea of what the overall look would be like. I applied the options in my mind without gluing the planks and applied the composition seen in the photos, which I thought would not disrupt the integrity of the model.

It is time to prepare the carronades that will be placed at the aft of the ship. I painted and varnished the carronades. I cut the capsquares from brass sheet, shaped them with the help of a simple tool I made, drilled the necessary holes and blackened them. The next job will be to secure the carronades to the carriages.

When everything is put together they will look like in the last photos.

I produce the breeching ropes myself with my homemade ropewalk.

I'm curious what tool you used when cutting the capsquares. I've seen a lot of people use shears for cutting brass sheets, but they often distort the brass when making smaller strips and leave a somewhat serrated edge behind. Your cuts seem very clean.

I use my Proxxon KS230 circular saw for cutting brass strips. But the blade I use is a fine-toothed proxxon blade made for cutting soft metal sheet.

That's a clever tip to make the rings as a pair Mustafa I will have to remember it. Constitution is looking great.

Cheers JJ..
