USS Hannah - 1:48 - ZHL Model by Fred P. with improvements

Hi Fred.

Congrats it looks fantastic. I was thinking in getting this ZHL kit. However I am a begginer I have some questions, specially as it is a chineese kit, I dont find any building videos, and on top of it I read that it requieres some DIY.

How manageble is the kit? Are the provided instructions sufficient? What parts exactly are left for DIY?

FYI, I am thinking in stopping at a semi planked hull, with minimal deck detailing, and no masts/rigging.

Thanks a lot amd happy sailing!
Miguel

Hi Miguel,
This model is indeed quite unique. In fact, when you order it, the supplier warns you that it's not exactly a kit. There's a lot to do yourself (almost everything, actually).
When I built it, I already had a lot of experience with model ships, and I really enjoyed the process.

In this "kit," the only pre-cut parts are the keel, the frames, and the gun carriages! Everything else has to be done by hand. A lot of wood is provided (good quality cherry wood).

I detailed my entire build on a French forum: USS Hannah (building steps)
You can easily have it translated by Google or another search engine.

You'll see all the steps involved.

Best regards,
Fred

Thanks Fred. Sounds like a step too far for me then, maybe a second build aftwr the Hayling Hoy. That one seems to be better suited for a begginer like myself.

Will def check your building log BTW!

Take care
Miguel
