Este navío fue projectado por Matheo Mullan y su construcción se déarrollo en la Habana bajo la dirección de Ignacio Mullan, hijo del anterior.

Una vez terminado puso rumbo a la península arribando a Ferrol el 15/5/1770 donde se completo su armamento y se procedió a sus pruebas de navegación en compañía de los navíos Guerrero y Santo Domingo, resultando el navío aceptable con reservas en cuanto a capacidad de marche ya que escoraba demasiado para poder utilizar bien su armamento.
Para resolver estos problemas, habrá una serie de cambios y modificaciones de ahorro que no dan resultados positivos, por lo que si se implementan para aumentar su estabilidad, mejorarán su armamento donde han disminuido.
Una de las muchas reformas finalizó en 1796 consistente en aumentar la longitud (slora) del navío en 3,90 m. su ancho (manga) en 0,65 m. y su desplazamiento en 186 toneladas quedando con un desplazamiento total de 5160 toneladas, una eslora 61,4 m. hay una manga de 16,3 m. Paralelamente aumentó su artillería a 130 cañones. Posteriormente, el volvió a comentar la artillería con otras diez, resultando el navío con mayor armament de su época. Este navío naufragó, partiéndose en dos por caídas estructurales hay consecuencia de los daños recibidos en el combate de Trafalgar,
El modelo de Liberto Amate: Para la realización del modelo actual partí del plano encontrado en los archivos de San Petersburgo, que lleva fecha de 1796 y está firmado por el ingeniero jefe de la Armada en la época: José Romero y Fernández Landa. Este plano es considerado como el más confiable de los existentes, excepto el plano que se conserva en USA.
Es de una extraordinaria calidad de dibujo, está a una buena escala (1/48) y su escaneado es excelente (177MB) . Las deformaciones sufridas por el papel en más de 200 años son muy pequeñas y han permitido trazar los planos constructivos para la realización del modelo de ellos.
Pero dichos planos aunque excelentes adolescentes de falta de una vista del espejo de popa, por lo que esta ha debido dibujarse a del análisis del alzado lateral, de otros planos ingleses de la época y de los pocos datos que se conocen. Tampoco existe vista de proa ni secciones transversales y todo ello ha tenido que ser dibujado apoyándose en distintos documentos de época. Pero para realizar un solo modelo los planos no contienen todos los detalles necesarios por lo que a medida que ha ido avanzando la construcción ha sido necesario a portar aclaraciones y detalles complementarios, lo que ha motivado una larga relación epistolar que ha ido en una sólida amistad .
