hello everyone.
I started a Viking ship about a month ago.
The Revell model is well known and not bad in quality.
It allows for a lot of modifications, which I was happy to do.

First the hull - easy to assemble. The wooden effect is achieved with beige acrylic as a base plus several layers of oil paint thinned with turpentine. After each layer of oil paint, I spray a layer of acrylic matte varnish so that the colors don't mix.

Here are some pictures:1.jpg5.jpg7.jpg8.jpg12.jpg15.jpg

The anchor from the set is not bad, but it is unlikely that the Vikings had such anchors at that time.
I searched the Internet and found a picture of a real Viking anchor from that time.
It is not difficult to make.
The wooden part is pear, the stone is pine bark, which I painted to look like stone :)

After much thought about what the rowers would sit on in the ship, I decided not to use benches but chests. I found historical reconstructions of chests from that time and made 28 of them :)
Someone I covered with pieces of leather (from an old jacket of mine) - it worked great for me!

After making the chests, along with a few barrels, a compass, and a few sacks, I started making the canvas.
I used parachute fabric that I had previously painted with acrylic paints.
I sewed it on my old sewing machine, which still does a great job with fine stitches.

It turned out that I had mounted the sail too high on the mast and it didn't sit well. A slight adjustment in the rigging and things were fine.
The sail is ready, the chests are also mounted, as well as other accessories such as ropes, barrels, sacks and leather tops.

The base and display case are coming.
I will show them when they are ready.

Greetings!

I think I built this model back in the early '70s. Maybe my first model ship. It wasn't nearly as nice as yours!

The only truly naff parts which come with the kit are the 'decorations' at bow and stern.
I see you haven't included them so far.
I'm curiously waiting to see if you will be replacing them with more appropriate features. if at all?

I have hat same model and just finished priming the deck and the hull.

I was quite perplexed as to where the rowers sat whilst rowing and now thanks to you I know.

Your model is a true inspiration.

Cheers
