Viking Drakkar New Build Log

Hi Namabiiru. I'm away from workshop visiting family overseas for next couple of weeks but when back I'm going to be into it and will post as I go along. Stay safe. Warmest regards. Steve R

Hi All.
This is a learning curve on steroids!
Not as easy as the Airfix I did as a kid.
Manage to plank one side with strakes bow to stern so mirror of what should have been.
To my defence, Amati instructions/illustrations not clear.
Have managed to strip off and ready for putting on the correct way round.
On a different note ..... planning ahead, I'm approaching the stage where I will need to start filling as prep for staining.
It's here I need help and advice.
I cannot get pore filler here in eSwatini. Not had much luck chasing it in South Africa.
Any alternatives I could use? Read Plaster of Paris and boiled Linseed oil can be used instead.
Thoughts, doubts alternatives welcomed.
Warmest
Steve R

Steve,
I could mistaken on this (and I’ve never built that kit), but Viking longships were klinker-built so you would not end up with a smooth hull requiring any filler. It looks like you’ve got the planks fitting together very nicely, but I don’t think they’re meant to be sanded smooth unless there is second planking layer meant to go over that.

Hi Guys
Thanks for replies.
I maybe didn't explain well enough.
The pore filler is for sealing the planks before staining/varnishing not to give a smooth hull.
