There's a few spots on a ship that may need waterproofing and aren't substantial enough for caulking. Things like the roof over the quarter galleries and the top of the companions. Stuff like that. What did they use to waterproof? Just tar? Or did they use shingles or some other roofing? Oh, maybe sailcloth and tar.
