I know the difference between the waterways, which varied in shape over time, and the margin planking but some questions just popped up in a conversation with another member. The ends of the planks were snaped to half their breadth and ended at cuts into the margin plank, not the waterways. Goodwin is very specific in describing the margin plank and the joggling of the deck planking so it will not end in a point, but I cannot find any mention of a margin plank in any contract. Does any member have any information on this based on contemporary sources, be it contracts or historic sources regarding the margin plank. Neither Falconer nor Steel make mention of margin planks in their lists of definitions and Steel does not show anything about margin planks in the scantling folios that I can find so far. I am sure Goodwin had sources on which his comments are based but unfortunately, he does not mention them.
Thank you

Allan
