Whales and whaling

Some suggestions;
The Sea Hunters. Stackpole
One Whaling Family. Williams
Incidents of a Whaling Voyage. Olmsted
A History of Whaling. Sanderson
Of Whales and Men. Robertson
The Yankee Whaler. Ashley
The Real Story of the Whaler. Verrill

Some of these may not be available as I have had them in my bookshelves for over 50 years.

My reference books are:
Sperm Whaling from New Bedford, Elton W. Hall
Whale Ships and Whaling, Albert Cook Church
Rites & Passages, The experience of American Whaling 1830-1870, Margaret S. Creighton This is excellent from a sailor's perspective.
The Whaleboat, Willits D. Ansel. A study of design, construction and use from 1850 to 1970.
To Build a Whaleboat, Erik Ronnberg, Jr.

There are several books available about the C. W. Morgan. Also check out the movie "Down to The Sea in Ships".

My current build is the whaling brig Kate Cory

THANX! I copied each down in my day log. First is Amazon, then there a number of online used book sellers. BTW I read Moby dick in 1964 after seeing the movie .

Mystic Seaport Museum has drawings and other information but I am not sure what they have that meets your needs. They have a collection of contemporary papers and drawings of various vessels so they may be able to help you if you contact them directly.

There is a lot of information about the Charles W. Morgan. In addition to drawings, I have seen a book published by Mystic Seaport in their bookstore about her.

There are several interesting articles in past issues of Wooden Boat magazine about her recent rebuild. Anyone thinking about building an accurate POF model of the Morgan should first read these articles.
