What do you wear ?

I have tried keeping an old pair of pants - I forget to put them on and can't be bothered to go downstairs and change. I do have a woodwork apron, but more often than not I have left it in my woodshed. My solution is to keep an old towel on the arm of my modelling chair and put that across my legs while working. Not too elegant, but it works for me and is quite good at catching those tiny parts which get dropped.

That's my problem... I have an hour free I will just stick ...can't be bothered to change I won't be very messy... oooppss
 
In an old copy of my Model Railroad magazine, a person showed his answer to keeping clean and losing parts.

He took an old cloth apron and nailed the bottom to the front edge of his workbench, and then just slipped the neck loop on each time he sat down.

It would catch most dropped parts, but those who get flying about was hit or miss!

Another way is to stick a length of hook and loop tape (Velcro) along the bottom of an apron. Stick another length under the lip of the workbench. Simply press the pieces together when you sit down and you have a “catch area” over your lap.
 
Besides my Possum Lodge pin, I wear the subtle CA dot as a badge of honor lol.

I did see a parts retention method using a framed screen attached to a pair of drawer slides. Mounted under under the desk so it's always sticking out a bit, it's never forgotten to be pulled out when one sits (or stands) at the bench/table/desk and I guess works pretty well.

Probably a safer (and more dignified) option than raiding SWMBO's wardrobe for a full-skirted dress.

Hi, Messy modeler! I am one too. I have multiple shirts with a dot of ca glue or paint on them. I remedied that by buying a RedCap shop jacket on Amazon. It keeps my clothes free of tell-tale signs of ship model building and it looks cool in a nerdy kind of way.
If anyone orders one, get a couple sizes bigger!

In my opinion, by far the best solution is a long apron. Getting him over my knees it picks up a lot of the bits that fall off the bench, since I'm convinced I have a black hole on the floor too...

I try to ware an apron and use the same shop and chore clothing, but I do screw up on every now and then as my wife points out my day in the shop starts out as are you going to ware that?.
 
Glue, paint, holes etc…. I tell my wife I’ve been busy working on my boat. As far as the Jewellers apron, I’d probably hang myself in it.
 
I was given a tasteless apron with cartoon cats on it for Christmas one year. It works very well as a gatherer of glue spots, for wiping off paint brushes and generally anything else that gets spilled in the shipyard...

A widower age 74 parenting an 46 year-old habdicapped son and I have had this problem since 1960 when I started as a kid. I have my modeler's suit composed of army surplus stuff. Strong, durable and they dont acre about a bit of paint or glue or pixxa sauce....LoL

I got super glue on my best t shirt, so immediately put super glue remover. Within 3 seconds there was a hole in my shirt lol
 
I have 3 shirts and 2 slacks that I wear when modeling. There is enough paint and glue on those clothes to make a small ship. That works best for me. As far as your small parts do not worry, you will find them about 5 months from now. I lost a small Copper hull etching tool last year (1/4"x 3/8"x2""). I just found it stuck with a bunch of brushes that I never use.
 
I've found that old underwear is great for multi-purpose rag use--anything from wiping off excess glue to staining. I hang them on the back of my chair for convenience and I've noticed worried looks from some visitors to my workshop.

Problem for me with this is I would undoubtedly forget that I was attached, get up and lurching one-way or t'other create a disaster of unfathomable proportions!:eek:
I've been adorned with glue and paint since childhood. :rolleyes:
