Which adhesive?

I have pewter rudder hinges that hold the rudder to the wood hull. Which adhesive, other than super glue, will secure the hinges to the ship?

I use 2 parts epoxy. Gives you plenty of time to adjust glued parts.

Epoxy is my go to for marrying different materials together. It also remains flexible - a little more tolerent of being handled.

Loctite and JB Weld, make several type for different applications.

Make sure to scratch up the inside surface of the hinges to allow for the glue to adhere better.

Do you mean the nails that come in a kit? I’m not certain I have a pin drill bit that size. I’ll have to check. Good idea thanks.

I have used simple high tack quick dry PVA hobby glue…the same glue I use on the rest of my model except where I use CA glues. I would also use CA gel…a light layer on the hinge and slide on. The only glues I use now are the high tack quick dry PVA (such as Aeleen’s hobby glue) and various viscosity CA glues. Just my experience…

I have used round headed pins. Before installing them I squared up the heads thinking they’d better represent forged iron. I used a cut off wheel in a rotary tool (and eye protection) to do it. This was on chain plate fastenings.

and a thing to remember - when using kit-supplied nails - scale can be of importance. Most supplied nails, when measured across the heads, are bigger than what they are full-sized.....

I'm another supporter of the epoxy option, even when I use nails in situations like a rudder hinge assembly. That way I know things are going to stay put. For epoxy, there are lots of options. I buy mine in 16 oz. bottles of Part A (epoxy) and Part B (accelerant) that I mix together in small plastic cups. I use that epoxy on many things, but initially bought it for the assembly of some white metal civil war cannon and limber kits. You can source much smaller quantities of two part epoxy, so it all comes down to how much you use the stuff for hobby work and other purposes.
