YQ Bluenose Ted R

It just occurred to me that I could have put the turnbuckle on the end of the 1/16" aluminum tube to simulate the solid lower bowsprit stays.

They sure have a nice product.
I already have blocks from Drydock Models and am going to use this time.
Thank you for the heads up.
Happy modeling
Ted
TBH, I mixed the blocks from Drydock Models with the strops from Hismodel. That led to some nasty rework of the strops and the destruction of some blocks...

Some of the rigging details show a line at, for example, 150mm. How close to this length should I cut this line.
How much spare line is in the kit?
I'm worried I will run short and have to use something that doesn't match.
My only other build had a bit 4 inches of spare mine when I finished and it wasn't anywhere as complicated as this build
Happy modeler

The yellow line provided seems to be oversized for the blocks. I pulled it through beeswax at least ten times and it still seems fuzzy and twisted from the keas than optimal shipping configuration.
Has anyone successfully used this material or has everyone abandoned it for aftermarket rope?
Uncertainty yours
Ted
Ps- it looks better after (singeing) sp but it's still pretty rattyIMG20241026174946.jpgIMG20241026174250.jpgIMG20241026174215.jpg

I left the rope from my kit untouched and instead ordered thinner ropes for the standing- and running rigging. This because I am convinced that the ropes provided with the kit don't do the model justice. @Peter Voogt prepared a very comprehensive list for everything dealing with the spars, blocks and rigging, see https://shipsofscale.com/sosforums/...ements-by-jenson-lankford-and-chapelle.10917/. This is what I used as my starting point for the rigging, but be aware, once I was past building the keel and the frames, I left the YQ instructions for what they were and the build became a scratch build model, although I did sometimes use the parts provided with the kit.

I'm totally lost on the rigging.
I don't know the size of the rope provided in the kit because the diameter depends on how much pressure I put on the Digital calipers. The plans don't reference rope sizes.
The rope shown in the above message are obviously to large for the Drydock Models pulleys. All the replacement ropes at Drydock and Ropes if Scale are larger than the above listed rope.
Peter's list is far beyond my capabilities and budget
I'm thinking two, maybe three black rope sizes and one or two beige.
Totally perplexed,
Ted

Take a deep breath, relax and just know you will get through this. Perhaps a cup of coffee or shot of good whiskey always helps me.
On sheet 8-8 of the 1:1 plans there is shown 3 flavors of rigging designed for this ship. C233, C234, and C235. These ropes are blister packed on the white board that came with your kit. Don't worry about the rope's diameter or circumference, just use the specified rope as shone on the 1:1 plans. See the picture below from Sheet 8-5, you can see where to use all three rope numbers. Use the rope called for but make sure it will pass through the corresponding block by testing it off ship. There is no big hurry, just one step at time and you will get results.

Here is another indispensable tool as far as I'm concerned. With out it model rigging would be miserable.

Good luck Ted.

Thank you @Daniel20.
I am comfortable reading and interpreting the plans and charts having rigged plastic models of the Cutty Sark and Constitution years ago. It was amateurish using knot's to secure and terminate the rigging. I am totally lacking the in experience where the lines are realistically lashed or seized.
I also know how to lash, seize and splice rope.
The ropes supplied in the kit appear to be way to large for the 2.5 to 4.5mm blocks I purchased from Drydock Models and look fuzzy, clumsy and out of place. (See photo of 4.5mm block using C234.). I can't find any dimensional data for the supplied rope. My measurements of the C234 varies from 0.29 to 0.49mm depending on the amount of pressure on the vernier calipers when I measure. (I am assuming this would be nominally 0.35mm) The smallest ropes I have found available online at Drydock and Ropes of Scale is 0.35mm. I sent a chat message to Drydock. This would be even more exaggerated using the smaller blocks.
I have searched online for alternate replacement materials. So far only Gutterman threads offer any hope as far as quality but they us a thread weight vs size nomenclature that I haven't been able to extrapolate.
It would be handy if the thread is av in sizes that would work for all of the blocks. The quality of the aforementioned professional rope companies is better but the thread appears acceptable based on photos and the quality of my build.
I'm still looking for a solution.
Tomorrow I might go to Michaels and Joann's locally and ask someone who sees if I'm looking in the right direction
Best regards
