I think aluminum wire is brittle when you bent multiple times? Why not use brass or copper? Why not try aluminum wire from Hobby Lobby. They have rolls of just aluminum wire only in larger quantities.

Color considerations were my primary concern. I didn't have any problems with brittleness or breakage, though it will break if you twist it too hard.I think aluminum wire is brittle when you bent multiple times? Why not use brass or copper?
Thanks, I'll check it outWhy not try aluminum wire from Hobby Lobby. They have rolls of just aluminum wire only in larger quantities.

That looks great Ted.I went ahead and followed through on my initial plan and installed both of the lower bowsprit stays.
Not perfect but I'm satisfied with the results.
Happy modeling

Thanks.That looks great Ted.
For the stropping of blocks I used this from Hismodel.com:Why not try aluminum wire from Hobby Lobby. They have rolls of just aluminum wire only in larger quantities.

They sure have a nice product. For the stropping of blocks I used this from Hismodel.com:
https://www.hismodel.com/en/objimky-kladek-wb-sb1-5-black-patinate/. Drawbacks: you'll also have to use their blocks, plus you'll probably have to pay shipment and import taxes.
TBH, I mixed the blocks from Drydock Models with the strops from Hismodel. That led to some nasty rework of the strops and the destruction of some blocks...They sure have a nice product.
I already have blocks from Drydock Models and am going to use this time.
Thank you for the heads up.
Happy modeling
Ted
I left the rope from my kit untouched and instead ordered thinner ropes for the standing- and running rigging. This because I am convinced that the ropes provided with the kit don't do the model justice. @Peter Voogt prepared a very comprehensive list for everything dealing with the spars, blocks and rigging, see https://shipsofscale.com/sosforums/...ements-by-jenson-lankford-and-chapelle.10917/. This is what I used as my starting point for the rigging, but be aware, once I was past building the keel and the frames, I left the YQ instructions for what they were and the build became a scratch build model, although I did sometimes use the parts provided with the kit.The yellow line provided seems to be oversized for the blocks. I pulled it through beeswax at least ten times and it still seems fuzzy and twisted from the keas than optimal shipping configuration.
Has anyone successfully used this material or has everyone abandoned it for aftermarket rope?

Ps- it looks better after (singeing) sp but it's still pretty rattyView attachment 480351View attachment 480349View attachment 480350
Take a deep breath, relax and just know you will get through this. Perhaps a cup of coffee or shot of good whiskey always helps me.I'm totally lost on the rigging.
I don't know the size of the rope provided in the kit because the diameter depends on how much pressure I put on the Digital calipers. The plans don't reference rope sizes.
The rope shown in the above message are obviously to large for the Drydock Models pulleys. All the replacement ropes at Drydock and Ropes if Scale are larger than the above listed rope.
Peter's list is far beyond my capabilities and budget
I'm thinking two, maybe three black rope sizes and one or two beige.
Totally perplexed,
Ted

On sheet 8-8 of the 1:1 plans there is shown 3 flavors of rigging designed for this ship. C233, C234, and C235. These ropes are blister packed on the white board that came with your kit. Don't worry about the rope's diameter or circumference, just use the specified rope as shone on the 1:1 plans. See the picture below from Sheet 8-5, you can see where to use all three rope numbers. Use the rope called for but make sure it will pass through the corresponding block by testing it off ship. There is no big hurry, just one step at time and you will get results.

Here is another indispensable tool as far as I'm concerned. With out it model rigging would be miserable.

Good luck Ted.
Here you go, Ted:The smallest ropes I have found available online at Drydock and Ropes of Scale is 0.35mm.
