ZHL San Felipe 1/50 - Help needed: Scared to cut the planking

Hello everyone,

I am building the ZHL San Felipe 1/50. I have finished the first planking, and I am now at the stage where I need to cut the frames (stanchions) to the correct height for the bulwarks (Step T.28).

I am very nervous about this step. I cannot find the "S" gauge in my kit, and I am terrified of cutting them too short or at the wrong angle.

Before I make any permanent cuts, could someone who has built this kit confirm the best way to measure this?

-Should I rely 100% on the 1:1 paper plans?

-Is there a specific measurement (in mm) from the deck for the San Felipe?

My English is not great (I am using a translator), but I would really appreciate your guidance so I don't ruin this beautiful ship!

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Y.T, thank you for your message!

You are completely right. The ZHL San Felipe kit is famous for its beautiful materials but also for its very "vague" instructions. As you can see in the manual Z9/Z10. the step is illustrated, but there is no precise explanation or measurement provided to help the builder.

This is exactly why I am nervous about making a mistake. I am relying heavily on the work of Etwa_63 as my main mentor to understand what the manual doesn't explain.
Thanks again for following my build and for your support!
