Oké gonna try a build log from this kit.
Started to take out the keel parts. Didn't have to do anything with it. It fits needless. All the parts are laser cut with big numbers on it. The drawings are a bit different from the drawings from other kits. They are A4 and there are 2 a0 drawings. I am now taking out the bulwarks (if it is the right name) in always save the frames in a case in having to reproduce it or if I want to build the ship again. The keel is 92 cm long. There's also a DVD with pictures how to build it.

Dry fitted the bulwarks. Had to do little sanding to get them in position. First gonna cut out the down deck and see how it fits and then i gonna fill up the spaces with balsa blocks or plank to make the planking easyer. The hull is painted White under the waterline but i want Just wood with varnish. What kind of wood strips is good? Walnut or cherry or another?

Oak veneer look good over first planking. The Mahogny on the Santa Ana loook awsome, but I would not do it again on a large scale. Very had to work with and every plank needs shaping with sand paper/ plained at its to hard to cut. Do the first layer then look at oak for a dark wood finish or Sapelli veneer for a redish brown finish. Both show good charateristics when varnished / sealed also makes a clean finish on first layer. Single layer is a PITA and fraught with unforgivingness & stress.
 
Bought a lot of veneer and wood strips on a secondhand site. I see some redish brown veneer so hope that its enough. Otherwise have to find store that will deliver at home. With varnish in have to watch out for glue stains i think.
 
if you use contact adheasive, there is very little chance of marks. it rubs off very easily. great for veneer work. I used oil based sanding sealer. its semi mat and fills all the little wood pores. Multiple coats is great.
