Thanks, I want the wood grain to show. I did a test without the primer and it looks good. I was concerned about durability but no one mentioned that.I use acrylic paints for painting ships hull. I do not use primers. Primer would mar the wood texture I want to show on the model. I use diluted paint and apply many layers till I am satisfied with looks. This is how I do it. You should do what ever you like.
ThanksI have been using sanding sealer first. I find that paint can "raise the grain" of the wood and, at least in my hands, a coat of sanding sealer makes the finished product look better. The wood grain still shows with using it.
