Ahoy, Shipmates, I'm looking for thoughts on what the best kit is of the 'GH'. I've looked at the 3 available:- OcCre at 1:85 643mm long X 450 H;
Dusek at 1:72 500 L x 460 H ; Mamoli at 1:53 495 L x 478 H. All have different numbers of gun ports, & the scale size variations make no sense, eg; how come the biggest @ 1:53 is the smallest lengthways, but the tallest? Question-Mark :( All replies much appreciated, thanks.

I think the best kit is the golden hind kit of occre... the only problem is that the plans are not detailed enough. but this is not an insurmountable problem, there are many masters who can help here...

Thanks Kaya, I have a part built Mamoli kit, which I'm not happy with, but my main quandary is over the finished dimensions not corresponding with the scales. I haven't researched the records, if they exist, listing the prototype dimensions.

I'm not very good at scales, but I'm sure there are many masters who can help with this.

OcCre Golden Hind was by first build (as a grown up). It was fairly easy apart from some fiddly brass sheet ladders (Make your own from wood) and brass sheet stanchions. Nobody knows the actual dimensions or armament of the original ship so just choose on the basis of cost or manufacturer preference.
With OcCre you have the option of adding the included pre-stitched sails.

I visited the site but could only find a brief history of the ship but could not find any scales or plans.

Having done some research - Wikipedia - & referred to given dimensions, it seems all the kits' dimensions are overall, which incudes 'sprit & gaff. By using Wikipedia's dimension of length, it refers to at deck. I printed out OcCre's plans & comparing with the Mamoli, it appears OcCre based theirs on the present replica, whereas Mamoli used a much earlier replica, possibly the one lost at sea. Going from my comparison, Mamoli is more like the same scale (1:85) than 1:53.
Gun ports (7) per side on a lower deck (OcCre), 5 on quarter deck Mamoli. Ah well, stick it back on top of wardrobe & 'press' on with Vic. (intended pun). ;)

you may still be able to find an old billings kit.. I picked one up at an auction and even got the fittings at the same time for a good price

there may still be some out there gathering dust on someones shelf

The one I got was in the Uk

Sorry, I got stuck View attachment 517488 halfway. Continued...
I'm happy with the result and the materials in the kit (you can see the kit's composition online). I think it's quite complete, but some components need to be improved to ensure the result is as accurate as possible.
This is the result of my model.
do you have and pictures of your build of this model

The Mamoli Golden Hind follows the old reconstruction of Hoeckel. The given scale for the Occre Golden Hind is wrong.
If you want to use a modern reconstruction I would wait for the new kit of Pavel Nitin. He uses the reconstruction of Eugen.t, he is also a member of this forum, which is based on the work of Aker.
I personally like the work of Hoeckel. But this has sentimental reasons. The old Revell kit following his work, was one of my first sailing ships 50 years ago.
