Thx Peter, showing these steps gives you an idea of the amount of work, otherwise only two pictures in three weeks .
Flipper is progressing the last few days.
After this it was time for the other side, same process, setting out the contours.
After the other side was in the same stage I continued on his mouth.
Adding some nostrils
And playing for Paul give him some teeth.
Appearently in the 17th century they thought a dolphin looked like this and had scales I add some scales.
The head is nearly finished except for some finetuning.

It is now first cutting the other head before I start cutting the tails. If I don't do it in this order it becomes to fragile and I am afraid I break a tail somewhere down the road.

I think I'll start simple; with a cube or so.
As my trip through beautiful Croatia is progressing so is my carving.
The second head is also finished except for detailing which I will do at the end.
The next will be the wapen of the city the ship comes from. In this case I have choosen for the Dutch city of Hoorn ( after which also "Cape Horn" is called).
Actually the ships hometown is not know, this is not traced back yet. We know the stern had a Swan on it but this was not traced back to an actual sunken ship in that period yet.
So why Hoorn. The fluyt is most probably originating from the build by a master shipwright in the city of Hoorn. Secondly the pear wood I am using to build my model is coming from an old pear orchard in Hoorn. So one and one is two and I couldn't have choosen another town.
The emblem "Wapen" of Hoorn is suprizingly a Hoorn.
I wil cut it as a bas relief on an badge.
I have now marked it but it still needs a huge amount of work.
After finishing this the tails will be finished and all the details added.
Hope it will be finished in the coming 1,5 weeks.

I love the rustic finish on this carving (and on the two 'fellas' completed previously). It is exactly what I would have expected to see on the actual ship.
Those ship carvers where most probably no michelangelo, neither am I .
In the end all carvings on this model will be painted with oil paints. Curious to see how that will go.
