I am a brand new member here and have decided to post my build log of the Royal William (RW). I have about 3 years into this build and have over 600 photos from the start to the present. She is about 75% completed as of now. The attached photos are what she looks like now.
I will start posting from the very beginning from here on out in small chunks with detailed explanations until I am up do date. Then I will post as I continue the build.

Thanks for your patience,

She is looking very good.....happy to hear, that you plan to start the log from the beginning - I am looking forward to see the entire progress -
I am sitting in the first row to go with you through your last 3 years of work

Ok, this is the start of the build log. First off I should mention that Euromodel Kits are considerably different from the other brands in a couple of ways.

First: You notice that there is no instruction manual, just a few pages with very meager content. The plans however are very detailed and the ship can be built right off of them. The plans go much further in detail than the kit requires. They are designed to allow the builder to go much more in detail than the basic kit. The builder can choose what level he or she wishes to achieve, from the basic kit to a museum quality build. The only down side being that all of the added features must be supplied by the builder, as they are not included in the materials of the kit itself.

Second: Other than the false keel, frames, and false decks, there are no preformed or precut wood parts. Everything must be made from scratch off of the plans. In my opinion, this is as close to a scratch build as you can get. There are copious amounts of cast metal pieces that form the decorations, but even these have to be cut, shaped, and manipulated in order to fit in their respective places.

Don't get me wrong, I am not faulting the kit, only pointing out that this build will be a very tough and challenging project. The finished product is just outstanding. I have enjoyed this build more than any other I have done, and I have learned more than you can imagine. I believe my skills level has increased considerably.

Something else about Euromodel which is unique is that they have a website which contains extremely detailed and organized building tips along with photographs for every kit they make, including this one. A builder named Peter Coward created this and he keeps them all updated. If you want to attempt this build, going to this website and downloading all of the material is a must. It is all free. I have relied on the plans and this material almost exclusively in getting to where I am with my build.

Happy building,

Firstly nice to see a familiar mate again from the place. Its has been years and I often wondered how was y pi ir RW going.
With Denise and you we have now the two best RW logs that I have seen in this friendly forum.
Welcome to the family at SOS and I love to revisit your logs and see what new and what I haven't seen.

Hi Maartin,
I see you have built the Prince. You probably know this, but the Royal William started out as the Prince and was remodelled and renamed the Royal William. Since I am building the Royal William, I thought it would be cool to also build the Prince. I could display them together as "before and after" I looked high and low for years for a Prince kit near the same scale. Amati had a kit 25-30 years ago that was perfect. Of course it is no longer available. I posted on one of the forums of my search for this obsolete kit. Someone actually answered and said he had the original kit still unopened after 25 years and he sold it to me for what he paid for it back then. I have it and it will be my next project.

Yes, those are mule deer from Wyoming. Every room in my house is filled with trophies. I hunt all over the world. Going to Africa in May for Cape Buffalo. Besides ship building, hunting is my passion.
Amen Brother Hunting is what I like to do most. The woods are my church. I have hunted in Utah for elk, Wyoming for mule deer, florida for wild boar, Canada and Maryland for whitetail deer and bears. My favorite hunts are for Turkeys. It's been at least 15 years since I've been out to Wyoming, beautiful place.

I will also follow your building log with high interest - btw a good start to show the content and explain the quality of the kit.
I am sure it will be very interesting.....

Nice avatar: are these Boston terrier or french Bulls? - so it seems that you have a lot of help in your workshop ;)
