POB 1/48 Hayling - Modelship Dockyard

Hi folks, just a quick update on my build.

Spent about a month of spare time working on the treenails. Above waterline only;),cuz I will white the hull. This time I experimented with some new stuff—colored nylon fishing lines (brown and black), 0.4mm size—used brown for the hull and black for the deck. I have to say they are very cost-effectiveness.

Swapping out the shiny copper wire solved one problem but created another: the nylon is pretty soft, so it doesn’t slide into 0.4mm holes easily. I had to drill with 0.45–0.5mm bits and fix them with super glue, which took ages.

Still, I think the end result looks pretty decent. Next time I’ll give some other materials a try.

I am not a fan of cherry wood at all. It’s already starting to oxidize and change color, looks like a model tank finished with pigment:oops:, which kind of forced my hand—I would had to use hardwax Oil or shellac at the finishing stage just to even out the tone.

Excellent visual result ! What diameter of fishing line did you use ?

This is absolutely great information on modifying this hull. I’m sure your
Model will be absolutely beautiful.

Yes, it is a 3mm strip. This is the way the designer did in the probe build
Thank you. There's no other way to not put this decor strip. If you don't put it, sides and rails won't fit properly. Model is great, but i improvise at every step, you have to think ahead.

Yep, I discussed this issue with the designer of this kit — it’s clearly a bug.
Another solution would be to replace all the planks from that 3 mm strip up to the rail with 4mm strips. Then use the original top plank as a template to shape the correct curvature for installing the rail.

However, the kit does not include these additional 4 mm strips, might be difficult to find wood of a similar looking locally.

Pretty neat work! I've always liked this boat, I'll be keeping an eye on the build!
