My 1/72 scale aircraft

Good morning Dean. Wow what an amazing experience. Did you fly solo..... a man of many talents. It is also really cool to see all your plane models on the shelves. That is quite the collection. Cheers Grant

Thanks Grant! I did not fly the aircraft, I rode in it. The pilot is a commercial airline pilot and ex military pilot. So a lot of experience, which is required to fly a military aircraft and especially a tail dragger. It was definitely a blast! I’m going again soon!
Also, I am going to need more shelves as I have 65 aircraft on shelves and another 20 plus in boxes!
I’m going to take a break from aircraft and get some work done on the NL ship soon.
Right now I am in the middle of painting scenery on canvas…have not done any paintings in a while!

As I mentioned, I have been sidetracked lately doing a painting. I have done a lot of painting in the past, but never a paint by number.
So out of curiosity I ordered a paint by number canvas with a picture I liked. I had in mind that I would embellish the painting to add more detail.
Once started, I realized the detail was crude and the colors were not blended well and looked very cartoonish…

This to me was hideous and I pondered throwing it away and considering it a lesson learned. But rather than give up, I decided to go ahead and see to what degree I had to embellish it to make it something worth pursuing…below was what I did next…

IMG_0476.jpeg
I was not completely satisfied, but it motivated me to continue.

IMG_0478.jpeg
I embellished the roof and cabin, and did the basic colors on the trees above the cabin.
I decided I wanted a wood shingle look to the roof and to embellish the trees…

IMG_0508.jpeg
I also put a lot of work into the sky and chimney. It’s actually starting to look promising and I am enjoying watching it come to life, even though I am redoing everything. So this will most likely keep me busy for a while and then I can resume model building.
See ya next time…

Your embellishments do soften the harsh contrast typical of a PbN painting. This looks like a fun and challenging diversion Dean, I like it.

Thanks Daniel, my embellishments have become a redo...ROTF ...I basically painted over everything they had and I am now avoiding that unnecessary step by painting it the way I want it and disregarding their numbered areas. I am now using their outlines as a basic guide.

Your interpretation makes a lot more sense than the prescription does.
Looking forward to the final result.

I have also built 1/72 scale planes, my main interest is USN. I keep them in a dust free cabinet. I like your builds !
Thank you, I like all military aircraft, and even civilian aircraft. But for now I am concentrating on military only. Still a vast amount of choices! ;)

So much room for good dear old AL-FI to make this a unique masterpiece
Agreed, that is why I chose to play around with a paint by number. I can use the basic image or picture as a foundation, but paint it as if I am doing so with a blank canvas. I typically start with a blank canvas, but wanted to try something different. And at times that is my approach to ship building...lol, I like to leave myself some room to be creative. If I get too caught up in historical accuracy, it feels like my hands are tied behind my back, and I lose interest. ;)
Wonderfully done!
Thank you!

Update…with the collection rearranged, I thought I would do a new image and name list per shelf...
