Finished a side yesterday

Got more work on the necks yesterday -- bummed I ended up with two different blacks. They won't notice with it in the cave though

Got bases and supports added -- still not enough though

When held on to the back the weight is not on my side. Maybe I will add some string to the wing tips to help the weight ....

This front facing picture of the neck progress was removed because of an identifiable item in the background that would provide ability to reverse look me up. Ya all already got feet pics, so have a reason to find me, can't give ya the means to find me too lol jk jk ;P lol

Nose and teeth done. Necks done

Do you think the people at the local hardware store would help me strengthen and attach the wings? Haha.....
I’d suggest multiple attachment points. You could run a pair of stiff wires longitudinally on either side of the body (on the inside) and then attach a string to each end of each wire. That would give you four support points that would distribute the load over much more of the body.

Are we talking about hanging it or attaching the wings to the body?

Well, I realize now you were talking about attaching the wings. I think my mind was still stuck a couple posts back…

Not sure how well I can put this into words, but some thread from the wings to the string you hang it up with would take the weight off the attachment point to the body. Not sure if that makes sense.

Yeah that was about my only idea too. Or even just giving them their own strings.

Just make sure all the strings attach to the same point on the ceiling, otherwise the piñata won't spin like, you know, a piñata should. I think that's what Nama meant when he said to attach the wing support strings up to the main string - that way, you ultimately only have one string to attach to the ceiling.

Piñatas are supposed to spin??? I must be planning this all wrong then haha

We are putting it up in a garage so my plan is to be in all black like a stage hand and pulling it up into the sky when people walk in. Then people will put their forehead to their sword and spin around it till dizzy then attempt to attack.

Hmmm, adult kids ... hit by one too many fireball shots ... spinning until they're dizzy ... with a sword in their hand. What could possibly go wrong? ROTF ROTF ROTF

Keep a mop & bucket handy.

For the wings, have a stiff piece of metal (Aluminum 1/8" x 3/4") that goes all the way through the body and supports both wings at the same time. A 3' length is listed on their web site for $7.55. You can bend the ends that stick out to give the wings an upward angle (dihedral?) :)

I just realized that the body may be too big to do what I was thinking with just a 3' length. You may have to get one longer.
Since it is so temporary, you can just run it through the middle of the body and tape it to the cardboard and you can use the metal inside as your supporting attachment point so it's holding the body and the wings. :)
Also, have you thought of how you are transporting it? You may need to make it so the wings come off. :)
Here is a very crude drawing of what I was thinking.

Ohhh attaching to the side body instead of the back of the body -- I hadn't thought of that.

I got some time with my dad and he thinks it should hold long enough with just some hot glue. So I think I'll do that with some wing nuts if I can spare the time. For transport, I'll just hot glue them when I get there day of.

In the transport test run today a leg and some chin spikes fell off

Oh hey look a post I never sent.....

So one downside to having the project be a piñata is that if you forget to get pictures it is just something you live with and remember. Soo.... Here are some screenshots from videos.... Hoping someone took some good pictures that they will share in the next week.

I will hold the memory of the dragon winning the battle against the birthday boys sword, which broke in half on impact dear.

The next few combatants using various parts of the broken weapon, plus additional found weapons to stabb them through the dragon. So it was still standing strong with a belly full of goodies and filled with swords sticking out of it was so good! I'll try to draw it cause it was so cool.

We had to take the dragon out of the cave cause our pyrotechnic plan sucked all the smoke in instead of blowing it out and then we accidentally hung it the wrong way so our main picture taker (who was chair ridden) had a back view of the dragon only :/
