Before treenailing first the shelf clamp of the great cabin is fitted followed by the last ceiling planks in the stern.
Now she shows het beautiful lines, Maarten. A unique model and example of a real piece of craftsmanship.

I just love this model. It carries with it the look of authenticity - which is really what a model should do (that is: it should invoke thoughts of the real thing). There are several builds on this forum that do that. By comparison my work is devoid of any soul. First class modeling, Maarten!
Hi Paul,

Thx for the compliment. I think it is a decision you take at the start of your build what do you want your model to be like. A representation of the original or a show piece, a piece of art.
Both are model building and can be executed at a high level.
Your model is a piece of art, build to perfection at a very high level.
Mine is far from perfection but that is also what I want to create.

Guess both works have a soul as we both put our time and enthausiasm into it, shipmodels will grow on you. If you keep them for many years they will become a mirror into your past, to me that means they definately all have a soul.

You are too hard on yourself, Paul. Your work is remarkable, fun to look at and an inspiration to your many fans. Don't spoil the fun for the rest of us!;)

This is a true story Maarten. However some of us just try and build something which resembles a ship ;). Your Fluyt is one of those unique builds which I admire. Cheers Grant

Thx gents, glad you enjoy it.

The coming time there is less to enjoy as it will be the boring process of making treenails, drill holes and treenail them. This will still take me some additional days of boring repetitive work but it will give the hull it final strength you will be suprized how strong this light construction already is.

Is there a pattern in the treenailing? No there isn't. See below the treenailing of the Samuel wreck.

Next week I will be skiing in the Alps so I will bring again my carving work and can hopefully finish the swan.

‘No pattern’ is also a pattern, Maarten. And it’s looking good.
Have a pleasant time in the Alps with nice conditions and get a lot of inspiration for completing the Swan.

Thx gents.

In the meantime treenailing continues, half of the ceiling is now treenailed.

The outside of the hull.
20251208_213046.jpg20251208_213056.jpg20251208_213111.jpg

On the outside I will add some additional blind treenails, these will not go all the way trough the construction.
Secondly the planks on the outside are partly nailed for their first fitment.

Can’t wait to see the results after sanding them ………
