Hello everyone!
Here are the first pics of the SR log.Steps 1to 17 completed.
All pieces comme off easily without a knife, align perfectly. Nothing to say.
The ribs have a little loose in the zigzag joint. I decided to glue them in the middle of
Of the outer to inner distance. I joined a picture of a trick to make things square :
A piece of half inch balsa glued with CA.

Welcome to SOS, Guillaume! It’s great to see another Soleil Royal taking shape here — I’ll be following your build with great interest. I’ve admired several of your previous builds; they are truly beautiful. I’m also building the Soleil Royal from AL and look forward to exchanging and sharing information along the way. I have far less experience myself, and my build is a bit "experimental", so there is plenty for me to learn. Wishing you a very enjoyable and rewarding build!

Allô Koedec!! It's nice to know someone is building the SR at the same time! I'm looking forward to exchange with you about the build or other things.
Do you speak French? I'm From Montréal.

I like to follow also, because my SR will be one of my next projects from the shelf. ;)
And I do not speak French. :(
Like many others that like to follow.

Hi everyone,
The build goes on well. Artesania Latina has changed their structural plywood for much thinner. it's fragile and flexible, see the picture enclosed.
I have made a jig for the assembly of the various frames, because the keel is a natural for imitating a banana (see picture). the zigzag joints have so much loose, that
a overlapping piece of wood is compulsory (see picture). I am dry fitting all ribs from 24A to 60, because at the moment, there seems to be a few places where
the parts seem not well die cutted. I will keep you posted

Hello everyone!
I basically finished the frame of the Soleil Royal. I did not have to adjust any parts. They all fit perfectly!! I'm impressed.
BUT!... the plywood warps like crazy in all directions, because it is too thin! I have enclosed pictures to show that. One important thing is missing in the No words plan of Artesania Latina : the width of the ribs. I discovered too late that you can use the plywood decks as reference. Lots of ungluing to replace the ribs correctly vertically.

I have "Soldered" all joints with Bondo Fiberglass epoxy, to make everything is ultra strong. The finished frame is incredibly stiff!
I will be taking a break from construction, because I ordered a book on French Warships that I saw recommended in this club. I will be working on my other boat, The Sovereign of the seas by Mantua models.

I noted that Corel kits have more stable, thicker plywood that on your Soliel Royal model from Artesania Latina. The frame plywood thickness is twice that of the AL model for a ship 3/4 of the size.
I know, I built the Victory and the Wasa from them, but Artesania Latina seems to try and save money for the production of their recent kits. I just finished the Santa Ana i January, and the plywood was thick. besides, the wood for the hull of SR under the water line is pale, not walnut. Convenient for a painted hull....

Are the planking strips for the bottom made from maple wood or something else?

The first planking is birch, than Basswood for 2nd layer....
This seems backwards. Basswood is soft (410 pounds force on the Janka scale, whereas birch is 1260 lbf, three times harder, and less prone to dents and such. I wonder why they have the better modeling wood for the first layer that will be covered over with a soft species.
