Really you should go with the earllier advice as the mast and spar secions are round, the hand drill works very well.... allow extra length for the jaw marks you cant avoid. Some models specifically rule this out by having spars and masts not round but flat on the sail side... notable things like Bluenose. But for Victory go with the drill advice I suggest...just keep checking with a micrometer for diameter.
Your belt sander looks awesome...very jealous.

I see what you mean but I was following the plans as best I could not sure how to rectify this
More for the future I am guessing. It is usually a good idea to look at contemporary plans to compare to kit plans if this kind of detail is important to the builder. Most, if not all kits of English ships from the late 18th and 19th centuries are based on contemporary plans so they are usually easy to find. An exception is Victory, I have never seen contemporary plans of her from the time of her massive rebuild in 1803 but am guessing photos of her modern day version in Portsmouth are a great guide when in doubt.

Hi while waiting for the stuff to resume the bow section I thought I might as well start the side gallery's painted and lacquered and waiting to dry before I fit the photo etch.

The yellow ochre take quite a few coats over the black colour

That's quite a set up! Brand new paired benches and a lounge chair to contemplate your build! I'm a bit jealous to see a dedicated work room all to your own!
Thanks Paul Its only since my children have grown up and flew the coop so to speak that I was able to commandeer a bed room for my hobby :) we decided to keep the four bedrooms rather than downsizing and moving house (too old for all the faff now)
