1:24 Pearwood French Longboat from Unicorn Model

So ... Just finished attaching the main and fore sails.
  • Still have to add the boom support halyards. The traveling rings are already on the booms.
  • Then the jib.
  • And it needs an anchor line for the anchor I bought from Larrygscale.
I bought different rope and blocks, and redid my first mast tackles. The new rope looks better because it is a size larger. I used thinner rope than spec initially - as it was what I had on hand, but didn't like it ... couldnt see the weave readily.

Here's the progress update pics (almost done)

DONE. Got her heeled to port, as if there were a starboard wind. Sails hang better that way. Happy with the look, although I wish I'd never used clear matte acrylic. The matte dulled the grain and muted some of the rich brown color in the wood. However, I'm quite sure, that after a few years, I'll get over it . Geeze! Anyway, the final pics (gotta find a place to put it now) ...

Thanks for your likes, comments and support. My first blog. Was a good experience, on the whole. I found it changed my modeling tempo.

Now I can buy a brand new kit - or finish up one of several hulls I've built over the years. Got a Pinta ready for masts. I has such a gorgeous hull. However the masting/rigging documentation was too sparse for my knowledge base 5 years ago - maybe now, it's doable.. And a Falkusa ready for interior frame. Beautiful wood on the hull - but I just kept breaking those frames when I went to bend em - maybe now? Plus a couple of other craft that I lost interest in before I even finished the hulls. OTOH, there are some nice kits out there.

Oh yeah - one more pic ... Charlie - in repose.DSCF6514.JPG
And, it might be time for me to start using a tripod.

Will you be putting her in a case? Make your own? Buy something?
Gonna make that case - I looked at buying one - too much $$$ or just can't find the right size. So, I'll measure a few times - then get some plexiglass cut to size if I can (otherwise, I'll buy a bit more than I need - and cut it myself ). Then I suppose I'll buy some new plexiglass glue - because I last used mine 14 years ago - glue the acrylic sheets together - make a wooden base - add some nice hardwood guides to the base to keep the plexiglass case in place - and if it seems tenuous - I'll secure the case with a couple screws.

I already made a stand for the model, that heels it over nicely, so the booms and sails look set like they were set to a breeze.
