Pavel Nikitin - Santa Maria

Jan,
regarding your comment;,
"I'm now trying to decide the next build step. Follow the paper instructions or follow Pavels video sequence"

Pavel's video logs, IMO, allow for much more understandable detailing that I have found to be missing (or confusing) from his Oseberg booklet of instructions.
I refer to them often as I move forward....

Your Santa Maria looks to be a great build log......

Regards,

Indeed, the build steps on the paper instructions seem out of order, but the instructions help with locating parts. The videos are much clearer and add steps not on in the build instructions.

Sorry I'm late to the party Jan. All the best to you. Hang in there summer's coming up. :D
Hi Ron, thank you for the Happy Birthday wishes, :rolleyes:Summer can't come fast enough:rolleyes:

OH boy time is fleeting Jan. I can’t believe it’s your birthday already. I hope you had the best one. Cheers Grantcome all to fast
Hi Grant. At this stage in my life those BD's come all too fast:rolleyes:

OOOPS, I've reached one of those moments, "Cut, Trim and hope for the best" or ask for some advice.

I'm working on the inner rails and things just don't seem to line up correctly.

@lakedaisy, do I cut off and trim the excess to get a good fit, both Port and Starboard have the same problem.Did I make an error assembling these???

Sorry Jan. I had lost track of your build... I don't get out much. :) I would say yes it shoud be trimmed. I remember having to fit some parts at the bow. I don't remember a piece being that long though. You have to kind of work it some the keep the 'curve' of the interior pieces to fit corrrectly.

Oh, and Happy Birthday. I'm signed to 'watch this build' but I'm not getting any notifications.

I was trying to be careful not to force or break those pieces, they are very thin. I finally figured out "the work them in at the curves" bit by wetting the end that fits into the curve, wiggling, diddling and pressing it into place, clamping it and then finally gluing it.

Thank you for the Happy Birthday wish. I'm just chugging along have a great time.

Dear Jan, please forgive me for my late birthday wishes. May this be a year in which you enjoy splendid health, joie de vivre and great modeling.

Shiyard update;

The Transom Planking:

Instead of gluing and fitting the planks one at a time I decided to sand, assemble and glue up the top section as one piece. That seemed to me to be a much easier method.

The next step is to plank the bottom of the Transom

Lower Transom planking Port side:

I started by being a bit more agressive "fairing" this part of the frame.

IMG_5270.jpeg

The next step was to remove the char, lightly sand and glue the planks together as one piece.

IMG_5271.jpeg

Then a few dry fits to get a good fit.

IMG_5272.jpeg

Followed by a final check for a bit of overlap.

With a "filler" piece added the plank assembly was glued in place.

Today is a repeat for the Starboard side.
