Le Requin-Zebec-1750 POF 1:48 (ZHL)

Here is a little more progress with the gun-deck support system. With each repetition it seems to progress a little quicker. First, I set the canon port standards then the gun deck support beams which have the dove tail slot at the bulwarks. These beams will get trimmed along a line that creates the deck stepdown, but I first have to install all of them in order to know exactly where to trim by setting the prefabbed decking with grates on them then marking the cut line. The template they provided DOES NOT match the decking profile, again no surprise there. Check it out.

Where the gun deck support beams marked 1s,2s, etc. cross the bulwark standards I have to trim out a notch where they lay flat onto the main deck. For now those members are just dry fit until I determine where to cut them off. Next a close in shot where I expose my limited abilities at joinery.

Hope you all find this informative and thanks for stopping in to take a look.

You give us a nice ‘inside view’ of the complexity of this build, Daniel. A lot of parts have to be aligned. And about your joinery skills …….. the dovetail’s looks very nice. No problem at all.
Regards, Peter

Good morning Daniel. As always fabulous modelling. OH Boy......that is a hectic challenge making all those notches each at differing angles and sizes. Love your deck. It is really cool to see all the complicates standards and deck beams (dove tail joints and all), makes for a brilliant Xebec. Cheers Grant

Thanks Grant, a hectic challenge is the perfect description for this ship at this point. :p

Dear Daniel
I agree with all the compliments given to your amazing work and I would like to add my respects to you for your perseverance, patience and quality.

Time fly's when you're busy. It's been 6 weeks already from my last post so here is a little more progress. My focus is the starboard gun deck support structure and perhaps the most difficult area I have ever faced on any build to date. There is an "L" shaped strip of wood that serves as the step-down edge with the decking laid into it and across the support beams that span across to the bulwark assemblies. I have glued and removed that piece 3 times now. The first couple
of shots I'm just trying to dry fit to see how the decking is really going to fit.

I would like to install the decking as shown, not separated into each plank but it is looking like that will not be possible and I'll have to glue down each piece separately.

For now, it may look like that precut fabricated deck sheet should just lay right in on the supports, but it just doesn't want to so it's going to be one plank at a time.

Thanks for checking in and by the way who ever made the decision to add "Similar threads" following our post, thank you, I Love it! AI assist?

Hi Daniel 20:
That is some beautiful craftsmanship right there. The precision and patience it takes to make all those supports line up so cleanly is really impressive. Honestly, sometimes the model tells you how it wants to be built, and one plank at a time is usually what gives the best and most realistic result anyway.

The deck already looks fantastic, and the extra effort will definitely show in the final outcome. Outstanding work.

A complex construction where a lot of dry fitting is needed, as you wrote, Daniel. A real challenge.

wonderful work my dear friend Daniel!!
The deck looks fantastic

Good morning Daniel. What you have done looks stunning. The Le Requin ship is still my favorite of any model and you are doing it justice. It looks like a crazy difficult construction but it the challenges we love. That precut deck looks so close to fitting - pity. Cheers Grant
