Such notches are usually done by hand with very sharp chisels and not milling machine, also because you have to prepare the other part of the connection also, at the lower deck clamps - father and mother have to fit well

Today I can show the lower level or floor of the powder magazine which was located between mizzen and main mast.
You can find the location at the following longitudinal section of the ship, marked with the red circle



The details of the powder room were constructed (designed) based on a publication showing a contemporary model with all shelves, doors etc
For comparison you can find already some elements of the shelves....


This is the lower level / floor of the magazin, which will be installed in the hold









On the backside wall you can see the cabinet or oriel with glass windows in which from outside the lamps were given.
In this way the dangerous fire was separated from the explosive powder




Here the backside wall with the different doors and openings - this access was from the bread-room

The deck beams to cover the hold are finished, so the first photos are showing the situation with the first installed planks (left and right of the openings in the deck)



and with further planks installed






visible at the last plank are the necessary notches for the hanging knees for the next level of deck beams

the wood is sold as "Swiss pearwood", but it has in fact nothing to do with pears and apples, it is a kind of rowantrees (Elsbeere, sorbus torminalis)
