USS Constitution - Model Shipways

I didn’t think they wrapped around. I thought they were three separate slats. I could be wrong. I used .5 mm slats.
Bob Hunt makes it into one piece but it isn`t. If you look at the photo in my original post you can see that it is composed of strips of wood. I might make it out of wood too. Haven`t decided yet.

Well I looked at the plans that are on the Constitution museum site, and I think I have an idea of what to do. So that means that the "wrap" will not be even, as shown below. I think I will have to use wood. I don't know how else to explain it.

I finished the chafing cheeks on the main mast as shown below. I went with the wood strips option and sanded the wood down to make it look better. I may apply putty to the little cracks in between the strips, or I may not to show that it isn't one piece.

Jack, check my build log. I did the wood slat approach using a contrasting color for my purposes. You could easily do the same and spare yourself the concern over tapering.

Um, nevermind. I saw too late that you've already gone that route.

Nicely done.

Thank you. Yes I already completed. I'll continue with the other two. I will paint it white, but I like your idea too.

Drat! How do I keep doing this? Must be something I'm doing wrong posting using the phone app vs. my desktop. Sorry for accidentally adding to your build log, Jack. And to Signet who responded to the misplaced post, my apologies as well. I relocated the post to my build log.

If this site would let me delete a misplaced post, I would have. Again, sorry bout that.

Anyone wishing to see that post about where I stood in the construction of the dolphin striker, here's the link to that post.

I had to cut shop time short today because both of my hands cramped up. Evidently, something about holding the Dolphin Striker in one hand and a sanding strip in the other caused both hands to just sieze. That's never happened before. So, here's hoping it's a one-off.
Yeah, looking at that makes my hands cramp a bit. Very nice job, though.

what i do is i edit the post, delete all the contents and then put something like "deleted by me". Sometimes the admins see that and will delete the post.
They are usually pretty prompt.

I don't think that was me. I went back 8 months or so and couldn't find another post other than just above, and it's not about misplacing anything. Heck, I'm usually one of the firs misplacing those posts!

Signet, look at Post 467 above?
Huh. I agreed that my hands cramp too, as that looked like a rather fragile piece. Nothing off-topic about our pains (sometimes bloodshed) when showing our progress! Sanding can definite cause cramping. And loss of skin, for that matter.

Wow, you must have removed the post (unnecessarily - sorry for the mix-up), as I can't find it now. Thought I was going crazy (still may be true, if off-topic). ROTF

The pictures are gone, but the post is still there - with a note to an administrator to delete it, if they ever see it. That's about the only thing I'm a little sketchy on about this ships of scale, why you can't delete your own posts.

No worries, I'll just be more careful to make sure I'm posting to the right build log in the future.. I'm taking the day off to spare my hands. Hope to be back at the shipyard on the weekend. Thanks for following
