Mayflower - Graupner Build log

Just finished building the foremast. Very tiny pieces and hard to cut out and trim. Here I am complaining again….. It is fairly straight and looks pretty good however. Not sure whether to paint or just seal. I will post pictures soon. I am trying to sort out where all the shrouds will terminate and how to attach them on the mast. I can’t find a picture of this.

Ok. Just put on some of the decals. Whew! They almost fit correctly. And they are extremely fragile. Maybe they were this fragile to start with…. In any case I will now wait to see if they stick. I wasn’t sure if I would even get this far.

I'm really surprised that the decals are still so good after 35 (??) years.
Watching your build log feels like being back in the 80th and being young again :)

Here is a photo of the spars as promised. Nothing is glued or painted or sealed yet. The small plywood parts sometimes disintegrated while I was working with them. I’m going to blame the plywood but that’s probably not the reason… This is definitely a learning experience for me.

Just a personal note. Will have to stop working on the Mayflower soon as we are heading to Iqaluit for Christmas and won’t be back until the new year.

Also I managed to get this kit at an auction here in Brantford. It is complete and unopened. This is a bit overwhelming but I am going to start it in the new year and see how things go …IMG_8880.jpeg

Good luck, HMS VICTORY is so difficult and need a lot of patience to have a good result. The good thing is that there is a lot of information about this ship that you can study, ... and learn a lot.

Nice work,Nersch
I also had to use of the delivered parts 40 years ago by Adler von Lübeck Graupner, because we did not have to much alternatives to buy the replacements blocks ropes etc.In those days there were many many model ship builders but less parts to buy, nowadays large possibility to buy all different material in different qualities and tools, but a limited number of model ship builders.
My Adler von Lübeck in the attacment
Kind Regards

Good morning Korsan,

My apologies for hijacking this thread but any chance to share more pictures of your Lubeck?
I am working on the Graupner model myself and because the plans are close to 50 years old they’re a bit difficult to sift thru and other detailed models are hard to find.

Any help is appreciated.

Good morning and thank you. Your plans look exactly like mine considering they’re 50 yard old haha.

I’ll keep hunting for more completed pictures and hope someone can take some up close and detailed photos. I really appreciate your reply.

Hi Maty
I found some more photos taken while repairing the running rigging during corona period.Actually i had stopped making models after 1995 and started again during the pandemy period.
Adler von Lübeck was my first model when i started with ship modeling ( 1978)
How i started is , i asked a friend to bring a model ship kit from germany . For not being ashamed buying a cheap and simple kit he said he decided to buy Adler v Lübeck for me (expensive and not simple one). It took me 3 years to finish the model. I give it to him as a gift (10 years ago) when he bought a house with a scenic Bosphorus view. AvL has now a wonderful view to boshorus.
Kind Regards
Fethi

Thank you! The additional pictures really help and I appreciate it.

Sounds like the AvL found a great home. The wife and I enjoyed the time we spent walking along on the Bosphrous last year.
