This will probably get me in trouble, but here goes anyway. The Xebec was designed by the Algerians, the French and the Spanish and combinations of those were all used by the respective navies of these countries and, of course by the Barbary pirates. So, imagine the design influences prevalent in the love child of all those nations. The one thing though, that we can all agree on, is the superb work that @Daniel20 is producing!

I have more progress to show, after finally finishing the port side on deck canon port standards, it was time to lay in the "L" shaped canon deck dropdown piece which separates the lower deck from the canon deck. Achieving good symmetry here is critical for appearance's sake. First pic is a closeup of this piece.

I used a set of dividers from my grandfather's old Dietzgen drafting set and marked off mirror offset distances about every 5 cm down the centerline deck strip to the port side.

Even in this modern age of computer aided design, this old set still comes in handy.
Here are a couple more overall shots, you can see where I started with the canon deck support beams which toe into the "L" shaped piece. Soon I should be finished with this and be able to start on other areas such as hull planking and other internal furnishings.

Hey Heinrich, thank you for the compliment. I love the way the members of this forum lift one another and keep the fun and challenges forefront. I also appreciate the desire this hobby instills in me to always strive to improve, this is always my goal, and the members of this forum are such an important part of this.

Thank you, Peter, I inherited several items from my grandfather, he was a registered professional engineer for the highway department in the state of Missouri.

Yep - me too…..A scratch version so we can all see exactly how these beautiful ships (still my favourite design of that era) are made in detail.

The one thing though, that we can all agree on, is the superb work that @Daniel20 is producing!

I am not so sure about that, Grant. Have a look at Daniel's VASA. Daniel was a member off what I call the VASA Trio with @PeterG and @dockattner - the highest quality "Group Build" you can imagine!

Moving along, I have assuaged my fears of a loss of continuity by placing single gun deck planks, especially in between the grates. If the rest of the decking system goes like the first three grate settings show here, it will be a major milestone for me.

Here you can see after setting the first grate where I had supports on both sides, so the second grate needed a ledger on the fore side for the grate to rest on. I put just a spot of glue on temporary top holder and heavy glue on the ledger then after a few minutes twisted the top holder off leaving the ledger in place on the correct slope.



So here are the first three placements close in and overall.



There will be a slotted cover closure piece at the bulwarks that the kit has included but is quite different from the monograph, that is where I will face my next challenge.

Ich habe weitere Fortschritte zu zeigen. Nachdem ich die Backbordseite des Kanonendecks fertiggestellt hatte , war es an der Zeit, das L-förmige Kanonendeck-Absenkteil einzusetzen, das das Unterdeck vom Kanonendeck trennt. Eine gute Symmetrie ist hier aus ästhetischen Gründen entscheidend. Das erste Bild zeigt eine Nahaufnahme dieses Teils.

Ich benutzte einen Zirkel aus dem alten Dietzgen-Zeichenkasten meines Großvaters und markierte spiegelbildliche Versatzabstände etwa alle 5 cm entlang der Mittellinie des Decksstreifens bis zur Backbordseite.

Selbst im modernen Zeitalter des computergestützten Designs erweist sich dieses alte Set noch immer als nützlich.
Hier sind noch ein paar Gesamtansichten. Man kann sehen, wo ich mit den Kanonendeck-Stützbalken begonnen habe, die in das L-förmige Teil übergehen. Bald sollte ich damit fertig sein und mit anderen Bereichen wie der Rumpfbeplankung und dem Innenausbau beginnen können.
