I believe I might have said this before... but I think your choice of this particular gold paint is spot on. Not too much, and not too little. Especially with the black background it looks just right.
 
I see that you are leaving out the gold strip that goes beneath the gun ports, That has left you much more space for the decorations. Good idea and will save you a lot of grinding which I had to do. Lovely progress though.

Yeah it would look too cluttered imho and like you said saves me lots of grinding and as you will know they get bloody hot :)
